Join a Restoration Camp
ENF's restoration camps are not nature walks. They are physically demanding, multi-day conservation work programmes conducted inside protected forest areas. If you are prepared for that, we want to hear from you.
What to Expect
ENF restoration camps are multi-day programmes conducted inside protected forest areas — tiger reserves and wildlife sanctuaries — under Kerala Forest Department supervision. Volunteers work directly on invasive species removal: cutting, debarking, uprooting. The work is physically demanding, carried out in forest conditions, and requires sustained effort over the duration of the camp. This is not eco-tourism. There are no guided nature walks, no resort accommodation, no curated wildlife sightings. The purpose of the camp is ecological restoration. Everything else is secondary.
Who Can Participate
-
01
Physical Fitness
Camp work involves sustained physical labour in forest terrain — carrying tools, cutting vegetation, working in heat and humidity. Volunteers must be in good physical health and capable of demanding outdoor work.
-
02
Conservation Commitment
ENF camps are for people who are genuinely interested in ecological restoration — not for those seeking a forest experience or a social activity. A basic understanding of why this work matters is expected.
-
03
Respect for Regulations
All activities inside protected forest areas are governed by Forest Department regulations. Volunteers must follow all instructions from Forest Department staff and ENF camp leaders without exception.
-
04
Minimum Age
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Participation by minors is not permitted under the regulations governing access to protected forest areas.
Camp Logistics
-
Duration
Camps typically run for 2–4 days, depending on the location and the scope of restoration work planned.
-
Accommodation
Accommodation is basic — forest rest houses or camp facilities within or adjacent to the protected area. Volunteers should be prepared for simple conditions.
-
Equipment
ENF provides tools and basic safety equipment. Volunteers are responsible for their own clothing, footwear, and personal items. Detailed packing guidance is provided on registration.
-
Cost
Volunteers contribute to the cost of the camp — accommodation, food, transport within the forest area, and Forest Department fees. Details are provided on enquiry.
